DEPOWA: Soldiers’ Wives Trained on Balancing Family, Business, and Personal Growth

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) has trained members of the Defence Non-Commissioned Officers’ Wives Association (DENCOWA) on how to effectively balance parenting, entrepreneurship, and personal well-being.

The training, held on Thursday in Abuja, was part of the association’s ongoing effort to empower families of military personnel and strengthen the wider Armed Forces community.

Speaking at the event, DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, said the programme was designed to equip soldiers’ wives with the tools needed to manage the multiple demands of family life, business ventures, and self-care.

“The theme ‘Balancing Intentional Parenting, Entrepreneurship, and Personal Well-Being’ speaks directly to your realities as wives, mothers, and women of strength. At DEPOWA, we believe true empowerment begins at home and extends into business, community, and nation,” she said.

Mrs. Musa stressed the importance of self-care as a foundation for effective parenting and entrepreneurship.

“You cannot pour into your children or your business from an empty cup. Self-care is not selfish — it is survival, it is strength,” she told the participants.

The DEPOWA President added that empowering women at the grassroots translates to stronger households and, by extension, a more resilient Armed Forces community. “If you educate a woman, you educate a nation. If you empower the wife of a soldier, you strengthen the backbone of national security,” she declared.

She commended the facilitators for their role in guiding participants and urged the women to put the lessons into practice for the benefit of their families and communities.

PRNigeria reports that the training featured interactive sessions on parenting strategies, small-scale entrepreneurship, and personal growth techniques aimed at boosting resilience among soldiers’ wives.

The event highlighted DEPOWA’s role in promoting family stability and capacity-building as part of its broader mission to support the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
