Army Arrests Cattle Rustlers, Recover Arms, 164 Stolen Livestock in Plateau, Zamfara, Sokoto

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified the clampdown on cattle rustling and terrorism in parts of the North West and North Central, leading to the arrest of notorious rustlers, recovery of arms, and the rescue of 164 stolen livestock.

In Plateau State, troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), acting on credible intelligence, raided a criminal hideout in Kogul village, Mangu Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted on September 11, led to the arrest of two suspected rustlers and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, a fabricated revolver rifle, 10 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, a mobile phone, and cash. Sources confirmed that the suspects are in custody for further investigation while follow-up operations are underway to track down other members of the syndicate.

Meanwhile, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY), supported by vigilantes, intercepted terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock across communities in Zamfara and Sokoto States. During an ambush in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, troops recovered 21 sheep from criminals attempting to move them toward the Anka axis of Zamfara.

Similarly, Zagazola Makama reports that troops of 8 Division in collaboration with Keystone forces repelled an attack on Garbe Kanni village in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto, destroying a terrorist camp and recovering 143 sheep.

The recovered animals were handed over to the chairmen of Bakura and Tureta LGAs for onward return to their rightful owners.

Military sources described the operations as significant steps in tackling cattle rustling, which has long fueled insecurity and communal clashes in Plateau and adjoining states, as well as terrorism financing in Zamfara and Sokoto.
