Military Strengthens Counter-Insurgency Drive as PCRC, NSCDC Seek Support in Borno

The Nigerian military has reiterated its determination to sustain the momentum in the counter-insurgency campaign in the North East, as the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) pledged stronger collaboration with the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri.

During a courtesy visit to Headquarters Theatre Command, the Chairman of the PCRC Borno State Chapter, Ambassador Abatcha Umar Nanabe, commended the Joint Task Force for its sacrifices in restoring peace and assured that the Committee would continue to support civil–military cooperation efforts in the region. He also offered condolences on the death of the Commander, 7 Military Intelligence Brigade, Colonel Bello Umaru, and pledged that the PCRC would mobilise communities to work closely with OPHK in tackling insurgency.

Similarly, the newly appointed Borno State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, visited the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, to reaffirm the Corps’ commitment to deepening existing cooperation with the Armed Forces. He noted that the military had contributed immensely to training NSCDC personnel and that both organisations have maintained close collaboration in securing critical national infrastructure.

Responding, Major General Abubakar welcomed the visits, stressing that the fight against insurgency requires sustained synergy among security agencies. He noted that the successes achieved so far in the North East were a result of the joint efforts of the Armed Forces working alongside paramilitary organisations, vigilantes, and other partners. He particularly commended the NSCDC for deploying capable hands to the frontline and assured that collaboration would be strengthened in line with the Presidential directive on safeguarding critical assets.

Major General Abubakar emphasised that Operation HADIN KAI will continue to rely on inter-agency cooperation to consolidate gains and ensure the protection of communities across the North East. He reaffirmed the Theatre’s readiness to work with the PCRC and NSCDC in addressing emerging threats and sustaining civil–military cooperation initiatives.
