He said the troops intercepted bandits mounted on motorcycles, neutralising one while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Items recovered include one motorcycle, two mobile phones, a machete, and charms, which are now in custody for further investigation.
In a related development, on 15 September, troops also launched offensive operations following intelligence on bandit movements around Garga, Showaka, Yuli, and Kukawa Villages in Wase and Kanam LGAs. During the encounter, troops engaged the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to flee in disarray.
The troops later recovered one G3 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition at the scene.
Zhakom noted that the operations form part of JTF OPEP’s mandate to deny bandits freedom of action, neutralise armed groups, and restore peace across Plateau and adjoining areas.
