Matawalle Visits DICON After Kaduna Ordnance Explosion, Assures Safety
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, on Sunday visited the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) facility in Kaduna following an ordnance explosion that occurred on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
During the visit, Matawalle expressed concern over the incident but assured that the situation was under control. He described the explosion as a “mere accident” and reaffirmed that DICON continues to operate within established safety protocols.

Preliminary findings indicated that the blast happened while specialists were concluding the destruction of expired and hazardous materials, including ammonium nitrate, primer caps, and propellants.
The Minister was briefed on immediate response measures and ongoing investigations aimed at identifying the root cause of the accident and preventing future recurrence.
He pledged that appropriate support would be provided to affected personnel and their families, while stressing that safety remains a top priority for the defence production facility.
Authorities confirmed that DICON operations remain stable and unaffected despite the incident.
