Troops Foil Bandit Attack in Mangu-Bokkos Axis, Seize Arms
Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have foiled an attempt by armed bandits to disrupt peace along the Mangu-Bokkos axis of Plateau State, recovering weapons and ammunition in the process.
The operation, conducted on September 24, 2025, followed actionable intelligence on the movement of criminal elements within the Manja area, located on the fringes of Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
According to Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF OPEP, the troops made contact with the bandits during the raid, forcing them to retreat in disarray as a result of the superior firepower of the soldiers.
“Troops exploited the general area and recovered an assorted rifle, ammunition and two mobile phones abandoned by the fleeing criminals,” he said.

The military spokesperson added that the recovered weapons and ammunition are currently in custody for further action, while efforts are underway to intercept and neutralise the fleeing bandits.
Zhakom noted that the success of the operation underscores the vigilance and combat readiness of troops deployed in Plateau, assuring that the army will sustain pressure on militias and bandits terrorising communities in the Joint Operations Area.
“Troops’ operational alertness and readiness are the bedrock of these achievements. These fundamentals will continue to assist ongoing operations in securing Plateau and ensuring perpetrators of heinous crimes are brought to justice,” he added.
The latest operation is part of sustained military efforts to tackle recurring violence in Plateau State, where communities in Mangu and Bokkos LGAs have been at the centre of frequent attacks by armed groups in recent months.
