Army Operations Chief Urges Field Commanders to Sustain Offensive in North-East
The Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Uwem Bassey, has called on field commanders of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to maintain operational momentum and embrace innovative strategies in the fight against terrorism in the North-East.
Maj. Gen. Bassey delivered the charge during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters Theatre Command in Maiduguri from September 24 to 25. The visit, conducted on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, was aimed at assessing operational effectiveness, boosting troop morale, and addressing challenges firsthand.
“Dominate Every Space and Deny Terrorists Freedom”
During his tour, Maj. Gen. Bassey conveyed the COAS’s commitment to directly engage with commanders and provide immediate support. He urged troops to “go all out, dominate every space, and deny terrorists freedom of action,” stressing that fresh and innovative approaches are vital to achieving decisive outcomes.
He emphasized the importance of synergy among all military branches, calling on land, maritime, and air components of OPHK to strengthen their cooperation with other security agencies.

Call for Discipline and Loyalty
Addressing troops, Maj. Gen. Bassey reiterated the Nigerian Army’s “zero tolerance for indiscipline and cowardice.” He urged personnel to use their full firepower to deal with terrorists and maintain an aggressive posture. He also interacted with members of the Hybrid Forces and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), reminding them of their vital role in defending their communities.
He cautioned against double-dealing and intelligence leaks, warning that such acts endanger local communities. “Some may appear friendly by day but act as enemies by night,” he said. “Such conduct will not be tolerated.”
Maj. Gen. Bassey assured that troops, in close coordination with other agencies, would continue aggressive operations to dominate the battlefield and deny terrorists freedom of action. The report was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.
