Police Rescue Trafficked Ghanaian National, Arrest Five Suspects

A 24-year-old Ghanaian national has been rescued from a human trafficking ring in Ogun State, Nigeria, following a joint operation by the Nigerian Police Force and INTERPOL.

PRNigeria reports that five suspects, including both Ghanaian and Nigerian nationals, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The rescue operation was launched after the National Central Bureau (NCB) in Accra, Ghana, formally requested assistance from the Nigerian authorities on September 15, 2025.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and his father were allegedly trafficked into Nigeria in July 2025 by a 25-year-old Ghanaian woman, Hassana Abban. Abban, who resides in Ofada, Ogun State, reportedly promised to facilitate their travel to Canada and collected 40,000 Ghanaian Cedis (approximately ₦4,960,000) for the arrangement.

Upon their arrival in Nigeria, their passports and mobile phones were seized. The victims were then forced to work on suspected fraudulent online trading platforms.

A special team from INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos, located and rescued the victim on September 16. The operation also led to the arrest of the primary suspect, Hassana Abban, and her four alleged accomplices: Odubuasi David, a Nigerian national, and Ghanaian nationals Yahaya Salifu, Sherifa Haruna, and Ebenezer Ofosu.

All five suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway. The rescued victim has since been reunited with his family in Ghana.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the professionalism of the officers involved and reaffirmed the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to regional cooperation in the fight against human trafficking and other transnational crimes. He assured the public that cross-border criminal syndicates will not escape justice.
