NSCDC Deploys 4,500 Personnel for 65th Independence Day Celebration in Abuja

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed no fewer than 4,500 personnel across Abuja to guarantee a hitch-free celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The Commandant of NSCDC FCT Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, gave the directive in a statement on Monday, noting that the deployment was aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets before, during, and after the festivities.

According to Odumosu, operatives drawn from specialized units including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Department will be strategically stationed across the capital city.

He explained that particular attention would be paid to vulnerable areas such as shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, prayer grounds, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, and key government buildings.

“As part of proactive measures, undercover operatives have already been deployed for surveillance operations to forestall any security breaches. Black spots, including uncompleted buildings often used as criminal hideouts, are also under close monitoring,” Odumosu said.

The NSCDC boss charged Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to take full control of their jurisdictions and ensure their presence is visible. He warned that lapses in security management would not be tolerated.

“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any breaches. Ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” he stated.

Odumosu also urged officers to maintain professionalism, respect the rules of engagement, and avoid acts of harassment, intimidation, or accidental discharge.

Reassuring Abuja residents of a safe Independence Day, he encouraged them to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, but you have a part to play too by being proactive,” he said.

While warning criminals and vandals to steer clear of national assets, the Commandant stressed that covert officers were already on ground across the FCT to deal decisively with offenders.

He congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 65th Independence anniversary, prayed for national unity, and urged citizens to keep faith in Nigeria’s progress.

The statement was signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Monica Ojobi.
