Military, Police Arrest Wanted Arms Suppliers, Kidnappers in Abuja

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have arrested over a dozen notorious arms suppliers and suspected kidnappers in separate operations across Abuja, PRNigeria learnt.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that six notorious arms and logistics suppliers to bandits were arrested between September 20 and 28 in an intelligence-led operation coordinated by ACP Victor O. Godfrey of the Scorpion Squad. The operation followed the directive of the FCT Commissioner of Police to intensify onslaughts against criminal groups.

The suspects—identified as Abdullahi Garuba, alias Alhaji Ore, 40; Yusuf Inuwa, alias Alhaji Dabunda, 59; David Kaika, alias Baba, 29; Baba Imaji, female, 36; and Ibrahim Nasiru, alias Pepper—had been on the wanted list of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

Police sources disclosed that the syndicate supplied weapons to bandits behind the Yelwata massacre in Benue State, several kidnappings in the FCT, and to notorious warlords including Kachallah Babangida and Kachallah Yakubu in Zamfara and Katsina States.

According to Zagazola, one of the suspects, Kaika, confessed to selling AK-47 rifles for ₦2.6 million each and ammunition at ₦3,600 per round, while Garuba admitted to concealing weapons in red-oil jerry cans for delivery to bandit enclaves.

Recovered items include two AK-47 rifles with defaced serial numbers, one locally made pistol, 2,186 rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition, two cartridges, and five operational motorcycles.

In a related development, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA arrested five suspected kidnappers during a patrol at Dei-Dei, Abuja, while they attempted to abduct one Babagana Abubakar at Shagari Quarters.

The suspects, identified as Suleman Ibrahim, 32; Mohammed Peter, 32; Bulus John, 43; Ibrahim Mohammed, 18; and Gamdo Josiah, 35, allegedly posed as policemen during the foiled abduction attempt.

A police divisional officer in Dei-Dei, SP Doma, confirmed that no legitimate officers were deployed on such an operation, raising suspicion about the suspects’ disguise.

Items recovered from the gang include a Peugeot Expert bus, two fabricated AK-47 rifles, four mobile phones, four ammunition cartridges, two radios, two knives, a black jacket, a handcuff, five hunters’ ID cards, two power banks, seven ATM cards, and ₦15,700. One suspect who fled the scene later died of exhaustion.

Security operatives said the breakthroughs underscore ongoing coordinated efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates and restore peace and security in the FCT and neighbouring states.
