Nigeria Customs Debunks Fake Recruitment Shortlist Circulating on Social Media

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed as false a viral social media publication purportedly containing a breakdown of candidates shortlisted per state for the final stage of the 2025 recruitment exercise for the Superintendent Cadre.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Service clarified that the information did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service or any of its authorised communication channels. It therefore urged applicants and members of the public to disregard the post in its entirety.

“The publication currently circulating online did not originate from the Nigeria Customs Service,” the statement noted. “Applicants are advised to rely only on verified NCS platforms for accurate updates on the ongoing recruitment process.”

Providing context on the exercise, the NCS disclosed that the 2025 recruitment process officially commenced on December 27, 2024, following a nationwide advertisement that attracted a total of 573,523 applications across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.

After a rigorous documentary screening, 286,697 applicants were shortlisted to participate in the first phase of the Computer-Based Test (CBT), which was conducted in batches to ensure fairness and efficiency.

The Service further explained that while candidates from all cadres took part in the initial CBT, only successful applicants under the Superintendent Cadre were invited to proceed to the second phase of the test.

According to the NCS, the second phase will be held across designated centres in the six geopolitical zones, in line with candidates’ states of origin — a move reflecting the Service’s commitment to transparency, merit, and inclusiveness in the recruitment process.

“All official updates regarding the recruitment exercise are communicated directly to shortlisted applicants through the NCS Recruitment Update Portal at https://updates.customs.gov.ng,”

the Service emphasized.

Reiterating its commitment to a free, fair, and credible selection process, the Customs Service assured that its recruitment procedures remain guided by global best practices and the principle of Federal Character.

The Service therefore cautioned applicants and the general public against sharing or acting on unverified information, warning that such actions could lead to misinformation or exploitation.
