Two Military Generals Sponsor Major Development Projects in Kano Community

Two brothers in the Nigerian military, Major General Muhammad Sani-Ahmad and Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, have spearheaded significant joint community development projects in their hometown of Koya in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

The projects, facilitated as part of the Civil-Military Cooperation initiatives of the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, were recently commissioned in a ceremony attended by dignitaries and local residents.

The commissioned projects included a comprehensive package of vital infrastructure aimed at improving daily life and welfare in the community: eleven manual boreholes (one in each ward of the local government); a 20,000-liter solar-powered borehole in Shanono town and another in Koya Kumburi; installation of a transformer in Koya Kumburi; construction of a mosque; renovation, furnishing, and equipping of the Primary Health Unit in Koya Kumburi; and a tree-planting initiative.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar (Rtd.), described the projects as timely and referred to the two brothers as “inestimable jewels” to Kano State. The governor commended the service chiefs for their commitment to grassroots development, noting that the infrastructure will have a significant impact on the people of Koya village.

Major General Usman Yusuf, Commander of the Infantry Corps, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to contributing to its host communities. He explained that these projects support the hometowns of senior officers as part of the military’s non-kinetic lines of operation. “Our projects are always carefully conceptualized and executed to favour the benefiting communities, and they are designed to complement state efforts by providing top-notch infrastructure for the people,” Gen. Yusuf said. He noted that the Nigerian Army has overseen over 250 such projects across the country, which have aided its efforts in managing security challenges.

Similarly, Rear Admiral E.C. Anakwe, Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, representing the Chief of Naval Staff, stated that the Navy’s civil-military cooperation projects are tailored to complement President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.

The co-facilitator and chief host, Major General M.S. Ahmed, thanked the community for its support and confirmed that, separate from this armed forces intervention, he and his brother have consistently worked to improve the lives of the people. All military representatives urged the community to take ownership of the facilities for long-term sustainability.
