FCT Police Arrest 4 ‘One-Chance’ Robbers, Rescue Two Victims in Abuja

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate in Abuja and rescued two victims, including a woman who was abducted and held for ransom.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, noting that the arrests followed a distress call and swift police intervention.

According to Adeh, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, around 10:09 p.m., when a woman identified as Hajara Ali reported to the Life Camp Police Division that her sister, Comfort Habila, had called in distress, claiming she had been kidnapped by criminals who demanded ₦1 million for her release.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives from the Life Camp Division immediately swung into action. Through digital and tactical intelligence, the suspects were tracked and arrested at Dape Village around 4:30 a.m. on October 9 after a confrontation with the police,” Adeh said.

The victims, Comfort Habila and Aliyu Adams, were rescued during the operation. Adams, who sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by the suspects, was taken to Gwarinpa General Hospital for treatment.

Those arrested include Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere.

Adeh revealed that investigations showed the suspects had been involved in a series of one-chance robberies around the Bannex and Kado areas of Abuja. The gang reportedly used a vehicle with tinted windows to lure unsuspecting passengers before robbing them of their valuables.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspects had picked and robbed six victims, both men and women, before their arrest,” Adeh stated.

Items recovered from the suspects include 15 international passports, two daggers, two cutlasses, four mobile phones, two hammers, three biros, and bloodstained documents.

Adeh added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“One-chance” robbery, a prevalent form of street crime in Abuja and other major cities, involves criminals disguising as commercial vehicle operators to rob and sometimes kidnap unsuspecting passengers.

The FCT Police Command has in recent months intensified efforts to clamp down on such syndicates through increased patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations around major transport corridors.
