IGP Reassigns Senior Police Officers to FCT, Kogi Commands Pending PSC Approval

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the provisional posting of two senior police officers to new commands — the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kogi State — pending confirmation by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

According to an internal police signal with reference number TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, Commissioner of Police (CP) Miller Gajere Dantawaye has been deployed to the FCT Command, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Wilson Aniefiok Akpan is posted to Kogi Command.

The memo clarified that the postings are temporary until the PSC gives formal approval, emphasizing that no officer assuming a higher position should wear the rank associated with the new office until ratification.

“The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the provisional posting of the following officers as indicated against their names: To CP FCT – Compol Miller Gajere Dantawaye; To CP Kogi – Decompol Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, pending the approval of the Police Service Commission,” the directive stated.

The development signals a leadership change at the FCT Police Command, with Dantawaye replacing CP Ajao Saka Adewale, who took over in March 2025 from Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Tunji Disu, now head of the Special Protection Unit at the Force Headquarters.

Dantawaye, who until recently served as the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, is expected to assume duties at the FCT Command once the PSC gives its nod.

The redeployment comes amid heightened security concerns in Abuja, following the killing of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, and her security guard, Barnabas Danlami, during an armed robbery in the Katampe area on September 29, 2025.

The 29-year-old journalist reportedly died after jumping from her third-floor apartment in a desperate attempt to escape the robbers. The police have since arrested 12 suspects in connection with the incident.

Before his replacement, CP Adewale had addressed the tragic case in a live interview with Arise News, while Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, paraded the suspects at the FCT Command Headquarters on Saturday.

The IGP’s latest postings are seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen command structures and enhance policing efficiency across key states in Nigeria.
