Information Minister Congratulates Danlami Nmodu on Election as GOCOP President

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated veteran journalist and publisher of Newsdiary Online, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, on his election as the new President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

Mr. Nmodu emerged as President of the Guild after a keenly contested election held recently in Lagos.

In a congratulatory message issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister described Mr. Nmodu as “a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in the profession and is deserving of such commanding heights.”

Idris commended the immediate past President of GOCOP, Mrs. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Online, for her “vibrant leadership of a galaxy of more than 100 online publishers,” and for bequeathing to the Guild a legacy of honour, dignity, and credibility.

The Minister urged the new GOCOP leadership to prioritize unity within the Guild by fostering an inclusive and harmonious relationship among members.

“As I congratulate Nmodu, it pleases me to urge him to run an inclusive leadership that guarantees the participation of all GOCOP members in sustaining the collective aspirations of the Guild,” Idris said.

He further emphasized the need for the Guild to remain vigilant in combating the “atrocious effects of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation” that continue to threaten the credibility of journalism.

Idris called for stronger collaboration between GOCOP and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, especially in promoting media and information literacy across the country.

“I am trusting Mr. Nmodu, who has built a distinguished career in journalism molded in integrity, accountability, courage, and resilience, to bring the same values to bear in upholding media fidelity and literacy in the digital media space,” the Minister added.

Mr. Nmodu’s election is expected to usher in a new phase of professional collaboration and ethical advancement within Nigeria’s fast-growing online journalism community.
