DSS Nabs Two Dismissed Officers for Impersonation, Defrauding Nigerians
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two dismissed officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the agency to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Service confirmed that the duo—earlier declared wanted in separate public advisories—had been apprehended and would face prosecution.
“The Department of State Services recently issued disclaimers on two dismissed personnel of the Service, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin. These individuals were alleged to be cloaking under the Service to engage in fraudulent activities. The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement read.
The arrests follow multiple alerts by the DSS warning Nigerians against dealing with the ex-officers who had been dismissed for misconduct but continued posing as serving operatives.

On October 13, the Service had raised the alarm over the activities of Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, accusing him of using the DSS name to dupe members of the public. Similarly, on October 8, a separate statement was issued concerning Barry Donald, who was also dismissed for misconduct but allegedly continued impersonating the agency.
The DSS reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens from fraudsters and preserving public confidence in the Service. It further disclosed plans to publish names of other dismissed officers to prevent Nigerians from falling victim to similar scams.
“The Service has resolved to publish the names of other personnel dismissed in the past to prevent citizens from falling victim to the possible criminal intent of any of these individuals,” the statement added.
The agency urged members of the public to verify all official engagements through its verified communication channels and to promptly report any suspicious persons claiming to represent the DSS.
