Customs, Air Force Strengthen Synergy on Border Security in Kano

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration to enhance border security and combat cross-border crimes.

This followed a strategic visit by the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Service Training College, Goron Dutse, Kano, Deputy Comptroller Umar Atiku, to the 403 Flying Training School (403 FTS) of the Nigerian Air Force in Kano on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Customs Training College, Philip Christian, the visit reflects the Service’s ongoing commitment under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to foster innovation, operational efficiency, and synergy across security formations.

During the meeting, Deputy Comptroller Atiku outlined key policy priorities of the Customs leadership, emphasizing the importance of consolidating institutional reforms and strengthening cooperation with sister security agencies to bolster national security and improve border surveillance.

He noted that the strategic relationship between the NCS and NAF is central to the success of Joint Task Force (JTF) operations aimed at tackling smuggling and other illegal cross-border activities.

“Our partnership with the Nigerian Air Force is vital to advancing aerial surveillance and border security. By working together, we strengthen our capacity to detect and deter illicit trade, smuggling, and other transnational crimes that threaten our nation’s stability,” Atiku said.

Responding, the Commandant of the 403 Flying Training School commended the Customs delegation for the visit and assured continued support from the Nigerian Air Force. He pledged sustained collaboration, particularly in the areas of aerial intelligence gathering and rapid-response operations to enhance Customs’ enforcement capabilities in remote and high-risk areas.

Both institutions reaffirmed that border protection is a shared national responsibility, calling for stronger coordination among security agencies to curb smuggling, drug trafficking, and other transnational crimes that undermine youth development and national stability.
