Troops Kill Notorious Bandit Abu A.K, Several Others in Zamfara Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation FANSAN YANMA, in a joint security operation, have killed a notorious bandit identified as Abu A.K and several of his gang members during a raid in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the slain bandit, believed to be a close ally of the notorious warlord Ado Aleiro, was intercepted after sneaking into Tsafe town to attend the weekly Friday cattle market — his first visit in nearly five years.

According to the sources, Abu A.K had been on the military’s wanted list for years over killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling across Tsafe and neighbouring forests. He was reportedly trailed and captured after arriving in the town through one of his female contacts, identified as Halima, who lives in the Gabbacin Tsafe area.

“Following credible intelligence, troops moved swiftly and apprehended him. He was later neutralised during an exchange of gunfire while attempting to escape custody,” a military source said.

In a related operation on Monday morning, troops on joint patrol ambushed and killed several other bandits in Tsafe forests, recovering a Boxer-type rifle and other weapons. The operation, which took place around 9 a.m., was described by military officials as a major success in the ongoing offensive against armed gangs in the North-West.

Sources added that troops later launched another offensive deep inside the northern part of Tsafe forest, killing an undisclosed number of bandits. The remains of Abu A.K were reportedly taken to the Magazu Forward Operating Base for identification.

Security officials confirmed that the slain bandit was behind multiple deadly attacks in the area, including the killing of three construction workers attached to Setraco Construction Company two weeks ago at a sand excavation site in Tsafe.

The latest operation, officials said, has dealt a significant blow to bandit networks operating in Zamfara State, where coordinated security offensives continue to target criminal enclaves.
