Anambra Police Launch Probe into Viral Video of Alleged Cult Initiation Involving Minor

The Anambra State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a viral video circulating on social media allegedly showing a group of young boys conducting an unlawful cult initiation ceremony involving a minor.

The disturbing footage, which has triggered outrage among residents and child protection advocates, appears to depict a teenage boy being coerced and surrounded by several others in what is believed to be a secret cult initiation ritual.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Command has already deployed specialized operatives from the Anti-Cultism Squad, the Juvenile Welfare Unit, and the State Intelligence Department to unravel the identities of all those involved.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident to verify the authenticity and origin of the video, identify the victim and ensure his safety, as well as apprehend all individuals complicit in the criminal act,” the statement read.

The CP described the content of the video as not only criminal but deeply offensive to public morals and the sanctity of child protection laws. He warned that any form of child abuse, indoctrination, or forced initiation into unlawful groups would not be tolerated under any circumstance in Anambra State.

He further urged members of the public with credible information about the incident to assist the Police by contacting the Command through emergency lines — 112, 07039194332, or directly through the Police PRO on 08039334002. He assured that the identities of informants would be fully protected.

“This Command remains firmly committed to protecting children, combating cultism, and enforcing the law decisively to ensure the safety and peace of all residents,” CP Orutugu stated.

The Police Command also appealed to parents, guardians, and community leaders to take active interest in the upbringing of young people, warning that cult-related activities have increasingly targeted minors through peer pressure and online influence.
