IGP Decorates 16 Senior Officers, Harps on Integrity, Professionalism

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday decorated newly promoted senior police officers with their new ranks, urging them to uphold the highest ethical standards and demonstrate renewed commitment to justice and professionalism in service.

The colourful ceremony, held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, witnessed the decoration of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), four Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and eleven Commissioners of Police (CPs).

Those promoted include DIG Mohammed Dankwara; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen. Others elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police are Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal, among others.

According to the Force Headquarters, the promotion exercise was part of a transparent and merit-based process conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC), which involved written examinations and interviews, following recommendations by the IGP. A total of 923 officers benefited from the promotion exercise.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State; Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State; Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North); Senator Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central); and Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central).

Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Regional Development (FCT), Hon. Ahmadu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda; Chairman, Board of Trustees and Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaji (Chief) Dr. Abdul-Raheem Oladimeji, OFR; as well as members of the Force Management Team, retired senior officers, families, and friends of the newly promoted officers.

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the newly decorated officers for their dedication and service, emphasizing that their new ranks come with greater responsibility to the Force and the nation. He charged them to lead with integrity, fairness, and professionalism, and to embrace community-oriented and intelligence-led policing strategies that would keep the Force proactive against emerging security challenges.

“Your promotion is not just a reward for your hard work but also a call to serve with renewed zeal and commitment to ethical values,” the IGP stated. “You must continue to be shining examples to your subordinates and to the Nigerian people whom we are sworn to protect.”

The ceremony underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed commitment to enhancing welfare, rewarding diligence, and motivating personnel towards excellence in crime prevention and public safety.
