Nigeria Police Marks 70 Years of Women in Policing
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced plans to celebrate the 70th anniversary of women in policing, a landmark event commemorating seven decades of courage, resilience, and service to the nation since the enlistment of the first set of female officers in 1955.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday in Abuja, the celebration will be held from December 3 to 4, 2025, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, who will join serving and retired female officers to mark the historic milestone.

The IGP lauded the exceptional contributions of women officers to the operational success and public image of the Force, describing them as pillars of integrity, empathy, and excellence. He noted that over the decades, women in the police have made their mark across various departments — from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership.
“Their dedication and compassion have remained integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying, adding that female officers have redefined law enforcement with a sense of purpose and humanity.
The two-day celebration will feature a national lecture, a historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme aimed at promoting inclusivity and capacity development among women officers.
Hundeyin said the event aligns with the IGP’s vision of strengthening professionalism and gender balance within the Force, emphasizing that the NPF remains committed to empowering women to take on greater leadership roles in policing.
The Force extended appreciation to all female officers, past and present, for their courage, professionalism, and enduring service, describing them as a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation at large.
