Gen. Musa Bows Out After 39 Years, Urges Military to Safeguard Nigeria’s Sovereignty

The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd), has urged Nigerian soldiers to remain resolute in their service to the nation, declaring that “Nigeria is a country worth fighting for.”

He made the remark on Friday in Abuja during an emotional Pulling-Out Parade held in his honour to mark the end of his 39-year meritorious military career.

Reflecting on his years of service, Gen. Musa described his journey in the armed forces as the greatest honour of his life.

“This parade is not just a ceremony; it marks the culmination of a career dedicated to the protection and unity of our beloved country,” he said.

The retired CDS expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment in 2023, and for the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s defence and security architecture.

He also commended the collective sacrifices of military personnel and the unwavering support of Nigerians, acknowledging that national security is a shared responsibility.

Gen. Musa paid glowing tribute to his family, particularly his wife and children, for their endurance during his long absences and the constant anxiety that came with his line of duty.

“You are the unsung heroes of my service, and I owe you a debt of love that can never be fully repaid,” he said emotionally.

Calling on the men and women of the armed forces to sustain the spirit of professionalism, loyalty, and patriotism, Musa emphasized that the Nigerian military’s victories in defending the nation must be consolidated through unity and collaboration.

He also urged stronger cooperation among all security agencies — including the Nigerian Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), and others — noting that no single institution can secure the country alone.

Gen. Musa expressed appreciation to the Nigerian people for their resilience and to the youth for their faith in a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.

“I remain a soldier at heart, a patriot committed to the sovereignty of Nigeria. Though this marks the end of my active service, I will continue to serve the nation in whatever way I can,” he affirmed.

The parade brought together top military commanders, family members, and associates who honoured the retired General for his decades of dedicated service to the nation and his enduring commitment to the unity and stability of Nigeria.
