How Troops Repelled Suicide Bombers, Foiled Terror Raids in Borno and Adamawa

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have scored major victories in the North East after repelling multiple terrorist attacks, neutralizing insurgents, and dismantling logistics networks across Borno and Adamawa States.

Between October 25 and 31, 2025, the combined ground and air components of the Joint Task Force launched a series of coordinated operations that blunted planned attacks and tightened control of key strategic locations in the volatile region.

In one of the most daring encounters, troops in Kukawa Town foiled a suicide bombing attempt by terrorists who tried to breach military defences using a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED). The troops engaged the armored vehicle with rocket-propelled grenades before a T-55 tank delivered the final blow, destroying the VBIED and forcing the attackers to flee. A 10-year-old girl who sustained minor injuries was promptly treated by military medics.

Similarly, troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) discovered and safely detonated three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along the Dikwa–Ajiri axis, preventing possible ambushes on major supply routes.

In another fierce engagement on October 29, troops of 192 Battalion (Main) ambushed and killed two terrorists near the Gwoza–Limankara corridor, while others escaped into the Mandara Mountains. Recovered items confirmed the militants’ continued reliance on bicycles and food stockpiles to sustain their movement.

Also, a night ambush by 202 Battalion along the Bama–Konduga Main Supply Route cut off a group of terrorists attempting to cross from Gezuwa toward Sambisa Forest, leaving several wounded as the rest fled under heavy fire.

Meanwhile, troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical), conducting anti-smuggling patrols under Operation Strangulation, intercepted a drum of petrol and two motorcycles used for illegal transport in Mubi South, Adamawa State. The smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the items, which were taken into custody for further investigation.

In a separate sweep, soldiers from 144 Battalion and Sector 4 Special Forces, acting on credible intelligence, arrested five terror suspects attempting to infiltrate Sabon Gari village in Madagali Local Government Area. Those arrested include Musa Mohammed (38), Gambo Musa (17), Mallam Mohammed (17), Abu Danjuma (27), and Umar Banna (26). Troops recovered a camouflage uniform, one 7.62mm ammunition, and 50 wraps of Indian hemp.

A follow-up operation on October 31 within a three-kilometre radius of Sambisa Forest led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, 90 rounds of ammunition, and four bicycles, alongside the corpse of a neutralized terrorist.

Throughout the operation, the Air Component Command provided precision airstrikes and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support that guided ground forces to their targets.

Commending the troops’ gallantry, the Military High Command praised their professionalism and renewed commitment to ending terrorism in the North East.

“Our forces will continue to dismantle terrorist cells, disrupt their supply lines, and protect vulnerable communities,” said Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI, in a statement on Saturday.

He reaffirmed that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain resolute in restoring peace and stability to the region and will sustain the tempo until terrorism is completely eradicated.
