Anambra Guber Poll: Police Deploy Tactical Teams, Helicopter, Drones
The Nigerian Police Force has unleashed a powerful security operation across Anambra State, deploying tactical squads, surveillance drones, and helicopters ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The operation, cleared by Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is part of a sweeping plan to tighten security and ensure a violence-free poll.
At the State Command Headquarters in Awka, Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, received the Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams with firm assurance that “no criminal will have room to disrupt the democratic process.”
“Our deployment is total land, air, and intelligence coverage. Helicopters and drones will feed real-time updates from critical areas while ground teams sustain visible patrols and rapid response,” Orutugu declared.
The police boss said the Command’s 21 local government formations have been reinforced with Counter-Terrorism operatives, Special Forces, and Intelligence Response Teams, noting that the combined effort will crush emerging threats before they escalate.

He said the Inspector-General’s directive also mandates aerial surveillance over flashpoints, border communities, and high-traffic zones in Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi, supported by robust patrols on major highways and entry routes.
“Our message is clear, peace must prevail,” Orutugu warned. “We are not only prepared to respond, we are positioned to prevent.”
The Command, he added, is working closely with the military, DSS, and Civil Defence Corps to ensure seamless coordination throughout the election period.
Orutugu urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel, stressing that citizens should report suspicious movements via the Command’s hotlines 07039194332 or 08039334002.
“We need every resident to be a partner in this process. Security is a shared responsibility,” he said.
With tension high and political activities peaking, the Anambra Police Command insists that the atmosphere will remain calm and secure as the state heads toward one of its most anticipated polls.
“The goal is simple, every voter must feel safe to vote — and every troublemaker must know we are watching from the ground and the sky,” Orutugu added.
