Ribadu Meets Security Chiefs Over Trump’s Military Threat
National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Wednesday convened an emergency meeting with service chiefs and heads of security and intelligence agencies in Abuja, following reports of a controversial threat by former U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action against Nigeria.
The high-level meeting, held behind closed doors at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), comes amid growing diplomatic tension sparked by Trump’s weekend statement on his Truth Social platform, where he accused the Nigerian government of “genocide against Christians.”
PRNigeria had earlier reported that Trump, in a fiery post, warned that the United States would suspend all aid and possibly intervene militarily if the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria was not halted.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now-disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet—just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians.”
Although details of Ribadu’s meeting were not immediately made public, sources at the ONSA hinted that discussions centred on assessing the security implications of Trump’s comments and coordinating a unified national response.
Confirming the planned media engagement, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the NSA and the security chiefs would jointly address the press to provide context and reassurance.
“The briefing will provide adequate response to the allegations of genocide and update the media on ongoing government efforts to contain insecurity and other vices,” Issa-Onilu stated.
