Dr Abdullah Shehu: A Model of Professional Excellence in Europe! By Isa Pantami
In England, I physically extended my heartfelt condolences to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Muslim Forum of the United Kingdom (NMFUK), Dr Abdullah Shehu, MBE, over the passing of his mother (and ours) recently. May Allah admit her into Jannatul Firdaus together with our departed parents. May He grant him patience over her passing and also bless him with good health and long life to continue serving humanity.
Previously, he had extended his professional support to my late mother in 2017 during her terminal illness. I was in touch with him and many other professionals in Nigeria (particularly, Professor Muhammad Raji Mahmud, the Chief Medical Director of National Hospital, Abuja, Professor Sunday Angaya Bwala, and Dr Abubakar Saidu, the then Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe) during that trying period. May Allah reward them immensely and admit our mother into Jannatul Firdaus, too.
Interestingly, Dr Abdullah Shehu has been one of the most productive Nigerians in the United Kingdom. He became a consultant neurologist in England in 1996. He was awarded the Membership of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his effective community services and integrity. This is a great achievement that all Nigerians should be proud of.

Furthermore, he served as Trustee of Africa HealthCare Development Trust (AHDT) UK; Trustee of Medical Life Science Fund for Warwick University, UK; Chairman of Muslim Doctors and Dentists Association (UK); Chairman of Health and Medical Committee of Muslim Council of Britain (MCB); co-founder and Chairman of Coventry Muslim Forum (which won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2017); and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nigeria Muslim Forum, UK (NMFUK). Dr Abdullah Shehu is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s finest intellectuals. He is intellectually gifted, morally decent, upright in integrity, an icon of humility, a pillar of service to humanity, and a down-to-earth personality.
Even though he lives in England, he has been involved in arranging many humanitarian activities and medical caravans in Nigeria voluntarily to support the needy and the poor.
He is always available when it comes to serving humanity. For the 15 years I have known him personally, he has always been available to render professional support with a smiling face. He helps, but he behaves as if he is the one being helped, appreciating the opportunity to serve.
Dr Abdullah Shehu is undoubtedly a model of professional excellence in Nigeria, England, Europe, and globally. May Allah continue to grant him strength and guidance and admit his mother into Jannatul Firdaus alongside our departed parents, bosses, family members, and loved ones.
