Police Train 325 Officers on Handling Explosives, Nuclear, Chemical Threats

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully trained 325 officers on the handling of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) as well as Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.

The four-week intensive course, which drew participants from police commands across the 36 states of the federation, was held at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende Hills, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of EOD and CBRN, Hauwa Ibrahim, described the training as a significant milestone in the Force’s effort to strengthen its counterterrorism and national security operations.

She explained that the programme focused on the detection, identification, and decontamination of hazardous materials and devices, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s vision of enhancing the Force’s operational capabilities against terrorism and emerging security threats.

“The trainees were exposed to comprehensive modern anti-terrorism techniques and are now fully equipped to deactivate explosives and respond effectively to CBRN incidents while ensuring public safety,” Ibrahim stated.

The CP commended the participants for their discipline and dedication throughout the training, urging them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their respective commands to support anti-bomb squads and emergency response units.

She also appreciated the instructors and institutional partners who contributed to the success of the course, calling on members of the public to promptly report any suspected explosive devices to the nearest police station.

In his remarks, the Commandant of the Training College, DCP Sunday Peter—represented by CSP Alhassan Abdulazeez—praised the Inspector-General for prioritising regular capacity building for personnel, stressing that such initiatives were critical to effective policing in the 21st century.

On behalf of the participants, Police Constable Ahmed Ruth of the Kwara State Command, who emerged as the Best Trainee in the 2025 EOD and CBRN Basic Course, expressed appreciation to the IGP for the opportunity and pledged to put the acquired skills to use in service of the nation.
