Customs, NSCDC Strengthen Collaboration to Tackle Cross-Border Crimes in Katsina

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Area Command, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have intensified their operational partnership in a renewed bid to tackle the rising incidence of cross-border crimes along Nigeria’s northern frontier.

The development followed a courtesy visit on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by the newly deployed NSCDC State Commandant, Corps Commander Abbas Dan Ile Moriki, to the Customs Area Command in Katsina. The meeting provided both agencies an opportunity to review ongoing security efforts and explore strategies to enhance inter-agency collaboration.

Speaking during the engagement, Area Controller Comptroller Abba-Aji Idriss emphasized the importance of synergy between security agencies in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders. He highlighted that closer cooperation would not only bolster border security but also help prevent revenue leakages and dismantle criminal networks operating in border communities.

“Strengthening collaboration among sister agencies is critical to safeguarding our nation,” Comptroller Idriss said.

Responding, NSCDC State Commandant Corps Commander Moriki praised the long-standing partnership between the two organisations, describing it as a key step towards building a unified national security architecture in line with federal government directives. He stressed that both agencies were committed to sustaining joint operations, enhancing community engagement, and leveraging technology to improve border surveillance.

“I truly appreciate this partnership and believe it will significantly improve border coordination,” he added.

According to the Customs Area Command, the renewed cooperation aligns with Nigeria’s broader national security strategy, promoting inter-agency collaboration to ensure safer borders and enhanced protection for citizens across Katsina State.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both organisations pledged to intensify intelligence sharing, coordinated patrols, and surveillance operations to tackle smuggling, arms trafficking, and other transnational crimes that threaten national security.
