Troops Neutralise Bandit, Recover Weapons in Benue Operation
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified their onslaught against criminal elements across Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States, neutralising one bandit and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during a raid in Benue State.
According to a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Whirl Stroke, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the operation was conducted on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Mbagen Community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. Ground troops, with air support from the Air Component of OPWS, stormed the hideout of a notorious armed bandit, engaging the criminals in a fierce gun duel.

During the exchange of fire, one bandit was neutralised while the gang leader narrowly escaped. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, five AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, a 36-hand grenade, two BAOFENG radios, 162 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one Sanya motorcycle suspected to have been used for criminal operations.
The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their tactical proficiency, gallantry, and resilience during the clearance operation. He noted that the successful raid further disrupted the activities of criminal gangs responsible for killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes in the area.
Major General Gara reaffirmed the operation’s zero tolerance for criminality, warning armed groups operating in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States to desist or face decisive military action. He also urged troops to remain disciplined, maintain high combat readiness, and continue training to tackle emerging security challenges.
He assured that Operation Whirl Stroke would sustain its aggressive operations until all armed groups threatening peace and stability in the region are completely neutralised.
