NSCDC Shuts Down Illegal Mineral Processing Facility in Port Harcourt

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its clampdown on unlawful mineral operations across the South–South region, sealing a Port Harcourt-based processing facility found to be operating without mandatory statutory licences.

The National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, CSC Babawale Afolabi ANIPR, confirmed the development in a statement.

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the South–South Mining Marshal Team, led by DSC Emmanuel Abiahu, following credible intelligence and preliminary investigations that confirmed multiple violations of the Mining Act. The facility, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was shut down for engaging in mineral processing and trade without obtaining the required legal permits.

Abiahu said further investigations were ongoing, adding that individuals or companies found culpable would face stringent legal consequences. He urged all operators in the mineral sector to ensure full compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements before embarking on processing, purchasing, or exporting mineral resources.

He warned that the Corps would no longer tolerate non-compliance, stressing that the move was part of the broader mandate to sanitize the sector and protect national resources.

Under the leadership of the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, the Corps reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing relevant laws, strengthening regulatory compliance, and safeguarding Nigeria’s mineral assets.
