NIPR FCT Launches PR Clubs, Academic Prizes to Groom Young Communicators

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT Chapter, has announced a series of youth-focused initiatives as part of activities marking its 35th anniversary, aimed at nurturing the next generation of communication professionals in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the Chapter Chairman, Stanley Ogadigo, said the anniversary presents an opportunity not just to celebrate past accomplishments but to invest in young people who will shape the future of the profession.

He explained that developing young communicators has become a central pillar of the chapter’s corporate social responsibility.

One of the key initiatives unveiled is the inauguration of Public Relations and Leadership Clubs in secondary schools across the FCT.

Ogadigo noted that the clubs are designed to introduce students to the basics of communication, leadership and reputation management at an early age, helping them build critical thinking and presentation skills.

The chairman also highlighted the chapter’s recently concluded Essay, Debate and Paper Presentation Competition, which involved students from seven tertiary and secondary institutions, including the University of Abuja and Bingham University.

He said the competition was created to spark interest in public relations as a viable career and to identify promising young talents.

As part of its long-term commitment to academic excellence, the NIPR FCT Chapter will also present special public relations prizes to the best graduating students of Mass Communication across tertiary institutions in the FCT.

Ogadigo stressed that the gesture is aimed at encouraging hard work, rewarding excellence and promoting high standards in communication studies.

In addition to the competitions and awards, the chapter will hold a free PR workshop for undergraduates on November 26, focusing on “Building Reputation in the Digital Age.”

The training will equip students with modern skills in strategic communication, branding and digital ethics.

Ogadigo urged students to embrace public relations as an impactful career path, noting that in an age dominated by digital media and artificial intelligence, the demand for skilled communicators is higher than ever.

He also called on organisations and stakeholders to support initiatives that promote youth development and nation branding.

The 35th anniversary celebration will continue with a lineup of activities, including a professional workshop, tree planting ceremony and book donation to the National Assembly Library, ahead of the grand finale on November 27.
