Reputation Begins with Knowledge, NIPR Says as it Donates Books to NASS Library

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) on Thursday donated a collection of public relations books to the National Assembly Library as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative to deepen knowledge and strengthen public understanding of the profession.

The donation, which formed part of activities marking the 35th anniversary of the NIPR FCT Chapter, was made during a courtesy visit by members of the Chapter to the National Assembly in Abuja.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Chairman of the NIPR FCT Chapter, Mr. Stanley Ogadigo, said the gesture was driven by the Institute’s firm belief that knowledge remains the strongest pillar of national development and professional excellence.

He said the National Assembly was chosen because it represents the collective voice and interests of all Nigerians, noting that placing the books in its library means making them accessible to students, researchers, and lawmakers across the country.

“This donation is very important because knowledge is power, and for us, this is one of our CSR initiatives. It will form part of our advocacy, because people need to know what you do so they can support you correctly,” Ogadigo said.

He explained that the National Assembly is “an assemblage of the entire Nigerians,” adding that donating books to its library is akin to donating them to the entire country. He said the Institute wanted the materials to be used by all categories of researchers, students, and policymakers who rely on the library for studies and legislative work.

According to him, the books will help widen understanding of the PR profession, especially at a time when reputation management is becoming more crucial in governance, business, and national communication.

“It is important because now we are taking reputation more seriously. And for you to know what the profession stands for, you can only know it through books and stories told by the owners of the profession,” he added.

Ogadigo said the FCT Chapter was committed to promoting professional standards and supporting institutions that shape public knowledge, describing the donation as a strategic step toward improving access to credible literature on communication and reputation management.

Receiving the books, Mrs. Aminchi Thomas Osula, Special Adviser to the Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund (NALTF), expressed deep appreciation for the donation, describing the gesture as both “exciting and overwhelming.”

She said the books would add immense value to the library’s expanding resource base, particularly in an era where reliable knowledge is essential for effective governance and public engagement.

She noted that the visit by the NIPR FCT delegation had helped establish a promising collaboration between the National Assembly Library and the Institute, opening avenues for future partnerships in knowledge-sharing, professional development, and public communication.

According to her, the library looks forward to strengthening this relationship in the interest of national enlightenment. Mrs. Osula said the book resources donated were not only timely but meaningful, especially in exposing younger generations to the field of public relations.

She added that the materials would be valuable to legislators, their aides, students, and researchers who rely on the library for credible information. She reaffirmed NALTF’s commitment to ensuring the books are fully utilized for the benefit of Nigerians.
