
NIPR Hails Customs CG’s Global Elevation, Pushes for Befitting National Secretariat
The President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, has commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, following his emergence as Chairman of the World Customs Organization in July this year.
According to Neliaku, the Customs Chief’s appointment as WCO helmsman reflects the values of hard work, performance and excellence that the Institute upholds.
Speaking at a reception held in Adeniyi’s honour at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, the NIPR President said CGC Adeniyi has consistently demonstrated the qualities of a courageous and resilient leader.
He congratulated him on the completion of his PhD programme, noting that such academic achievement further highlights his commitment to personal and professional growth.
Neliaku added that at a time when Nigeria’s reputation is under strain internationally, Adeniyi’s election as WCO’s Chairman provides the world with evidence that the country can offer capable and credible leadership at the global level.

He described the honoree as a proud fellow of the Institute whose accomplishments continue to bring honour to the NIPR.
The reception, which also featured a fundraising dinner for the construction of the NIPR National Secretariat, provided an opportunity for the Institute to renew its call for a befitting headquarters.
Neliaku said the project was essential to strengthening Nigeria’s reputation management capacity and supporting the Institute’s statutory responsibilities.
In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi thanked the NIPR for championing the Reputation Management Project, which he described as an important national development initiative.
He also expressed support for the drive to establish a permanent NIPR Secretariat, describing it as a “reputation house” that the Institute truly deserves.
Adeniyi highlighted efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen its corporate social responsibility programmes, ensuring that CSR interventions are now aligned with local needs across states and local government areas.
He noted that these projects contribute to key Sustainable Development Goals through support for education, clean water provision and healthcare facilities in partnership with state governments.
