Army Captures Notorious Kidnapper in Wukari, Launches Manhunt for Abducted Victim

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a notorious kidnapping suspect during an intensified offensive against criminal networks in Taraba State. The breakthrough occurred under Operation Zafin Wuta, a renewed security push targeting violent gangs across the region.

The suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was apprehended on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu in Wukari Local Government Area following a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence. Security sources described Geyi as a key member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for a series of abductions that have plagued communities within Wukari and its environs.

According to military authorities, preliminary findings linked the suspect to the abduction of a Fulani resident, Alhaji Jano, who was kidnapped on 13 November 2025 and remains in captivity. Troops intercepted Geyi during a phone call in which he confirmed that the victim was still being held and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million.

The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing further interrogation aimed at uncovering the victim’s location and ensuring his safe rescue.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for what he described as a proactive and decisive action. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across Taraba State.

The Commander urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing security agencies with timely and reliable information to aid ongoing operations.
