NSCDC Foils Telecom Mast Vandalism in Yobe, Arrests Suspects Nationwide

The Special Intelligence Squad (SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recorded significant breakthroughs in ongoing operations to protect critical national assets and curb criminal activity across the country.

In Yobe State, three suspects were arrested for allegedly conspiring with a terrorist group to vandalise a live telecommunications tower located at Savannah in Potiskum Local Government Area. The operation followed credible intelligence that exposed plans to decommission the tower.

The arrested suspects are Ibrahim Jibrin, 44, of Damaturu; Dahiru Ibrahim Isa, 38, from Babban Layi, Potiskum; and Usman Ali Isa, 27, from Dabar Mai Chafa, Potiskum. According to investigations, Jibrin, said to be an expert in vandalising telecom infrastructure, was allegedly contracted for N800,000, receiving an advance payment of N200,000 from an accomplice identified as Alhaji Kabiru of Kano State. Recovered exhibits include vandalised tower components and tools used in the operation.

In Abuja, SIS operatives apprehended two suspects—David Moses and Nuhu Inusa—following intelligence on a criminal syndicate notorious for snatching motorcycles and mobile phones around Kuje and Tungan Maje. The suspects were arrested in the Gui area, where stolen phones were recovered. They reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that an accomplice rewarded them with two Bajaj motorcycles worth N400,000 and N350,000 in exchange for stolen items.

In a related operation, three more suspects—Akawe Uter, Sunny Obasi, and Ezugwu Godwin—were arrested over allegations of illegal power connections, tampering with electrical installations, and assaulting staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). Their arrests followed earlier action against one George Nyitamen, reportedly linked to the same offences.

The SIS also arrested Vincent Haliru Maigari, 27, after a distress call alleged he stole plumbing materials from an apartment he was hired to work on near the Didi/Madiba Casa Estate in Abuja. Maigari confessed to the theft, leading to the arrest of some individuals who fraudulently bought the stolen items.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, has directed all operational units to intensify their clampdown on vandals and economic saboteurs targeting critical national infrastructure. Commander of the SIS, Commandant Samu Appollos Dandaura, JP, expressed confidence that with sustained public collaboration, the Corps will continue to deliver on its mandate effectively.

All arrested suspects are expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
