PSC Elevates 1 DIG, 7 AIGs, 13 CPs, Others in Major Police Promotion

PSC Elevates 1 DIG, 7 AIGs, 13 CPs, Others in Major Police Promotion

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of hundreds of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to various higher ranks, following rigorous written examinations and oral interviews.

The promotion exercise, which was concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, took place at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and was presided over by the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Salihu Argungu, mni.

At the apex of the promotions, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Usman Gumel was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Until his promotion, Gumel served as the AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP) Department, Research and Planning, at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Commission also promoted seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIG). They include Ihebom Chukwuma of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja; Maxwell Olatokunbo of the K9 Unit; Abaniwonda Olufemi, Commissioner of Police, Delta State; Alonyenu Francis Idu, Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State; Lawal B. Ayodeji of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, FCID Annex, Lagos; Agene Emmanuel of FCID Kaduna; and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo, Commissioner of Police, Railway Command.

Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police (CP). Among them are Babalola Ayodeji Johnson of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; Ali Umar Fage of the Department of Finance and Administration, Port Authority, Lagos; Cyril Uche Obiozo, DC Administration, Cross River Command; Adepegba K. Adetoye, DC Administration, Edo Command; Tabitha Bako of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, FCID; and Audu Garba Bosso, DC Operations, Borno State Command, among others.

Similarly, thirty Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP). Those promoted include Muhammad Nuhu Diggi of Dala Area Command, Kano; Udu Moses Ogechi, PhD, Commander 59 Police Mobile Force, Gombe; Afolaogun Toyin of 16 PMF, Abeokuta; Alex O. Ebbah of the X-Squad, FCT Command; Ajasa Hakeem of 4 PMF, Ibadan; and Onaghise Shelley Osayande of ‘A’ Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, among others.

In another batch, fifty-one Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP). They include Davidson Okechukwu Ndubueze, Divisional Police Officer, Okija; Muktari Bello of Delta State Command; and Obediah Okezie, DPO, World Bank, Umuahia, among others.

The PSC also approved the promotion of 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). Beneficiaries include Ekere Ferdinand, Commander CTU Base 1, Abuja; Anthony Elijah Kwada, Officer-in-Charge of Provost, IGP-STFPIB, Force Headquarters; Lucas Yohanna, former ADC to the Adamawa State Governor; and Ibrahim Lawan Rano, Second-in-Command, Anti-Money Laundering Unit, FCT Command, among many others.

In addition, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP), while twelve Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), urged them to brace up to the demands of their new ranks and demonstrate greater commitment to national service.

He stressed that promotion comes with higher expectations, calling on the officers to rededicate themselves to effective policing, the protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order across the country.

Argungu also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to regular, transparent, and merit-based promotions in line with global best practices in policing and public service.
