NSCDC Deploys 55,000 Operatives for Christmas, New Year Celebrations
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 55,000 operatives across the country to ensure the safety of lives, property, and critical national assets during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, announced the nationwide deployment as part of proactive measures to strengthen the nation’s security architecture before, during, and after the yuletide celebrations.
Prof. Audi said the decision became necessary in view of the tendency of criminal elements to exploit festive periods to perpetrate acts of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, insurgency, farmer-herder clashes, and other security threats.
According to him, the deployment, which involves both covert and overt operations, represents a full-scale mobilization of NSCDC personnel aimed at providing maximum human security and protecting government critical national assets and infrastructure nationwide.
“The festive period often comes with increased security challenges. This deployment is to ensure that criminal-minded individuals do not take advantage of the celebrations to carry out their sinister activities,” the NSCDC boss stated.

He stressed that effective crime prevention largely depends on public cooperation, urging citizens to provide credible, timely, and sustained intelligence that would enable security agencies to act swiftly and decisively.
“It is imperative for members of the public to trust and collaborate with us by giving credible and timely information. This will help us prevent crimes rather than merely responding after they occur,” Prof. Audi said.
The Commandant General further directed all Zonal Commanders to closely monitor commands under their jurisdictions, while State Commandants are to effectively coordinate Area Commands, Divisional Offices, and other formations to ensure seamless operations throughout the period.
Reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to national security, Prof. Audi assured Nigerians of NSCDC’s readiness to work in synergy with sister security agencies to maintain peace and stability across the country.
“Our unwavering commitment is to ensure a safe and secure environment. This can only be achieved with the support of the public and strong collaboration among security agencies to guarantee peace and allow development to thrive,” he added.
The NSCDC urged Nigerians to go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful yuletide celebration nationwide.
