Media Rights Agenda Bags International Award for Media Freedom, Digital Rights

Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has been named the Best Media Freedom and Digital Rights Organisation in Nigeria for 2025 by the United Kingdom–based MEA Markets Magazine, in its prestigious MEA Business Awards 2025.

The award, announced in a statement issued in the UK on Tuesday, recognises organisations across the Middle East and Africa that demonstrate excellence, innovation, and impact within their respective sectors. MEA Markets said the 2025 awards celebrate “the depth and diversity of the Middle East and Africa’s dynamic business landscape,” while spotlighting institutions that are driving growth, adapting to change, and making meaningful contributions despite prevailing challenges.

Highlighting the quality of this year’s winners, the publication noted that the awards showcase “the excellence flowing through the vibrant region in spite of any industry challenges,” adding that the honourees represent trailblazers creating new opportunities across different fields.

According to MEA Markets, MRA emerged as the deserving recipient of the media freedom and digital rights award following a merit-led research and evaluation process, which assessed performance, influence, and contribution to the sector.

Speaking on the awards, the 2025 Awards Coordinator, Kaven Cooper, said the organisers work tirelessly to identify and reward companies and organisations that continually raise standards across the corporate and professional landscape.

“From power solutions to eco-friendly food waste disposal solutions, regulatory reporting services to homeschooling resources, and so much more, this year’s instalment is a powerful example of the growing excellence of business in the region,” Cooper said, while announcing winners across various categories.

Media Rights Agenda is a leading civil society organisation committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression, media freedom, digital rights, and access to information in Nigeria. The organisation also has Observer Status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, headquartered in Banjul, The Gambia.

Now in its ninth year, the MEA Business Awards, organised annually by MEA Markets, recognise organisations across the Middle East and Africa that demonstrate outstanding performance, innovation, and impact within their industries.

The recognition further reinforces MRA’s role as a key advocate for press freedom and digital rights in Nigeria, amid growing concerns over shrinking civic space and regulatory pressures on media and online expression.

For further information, Media Rights Agenda said inquiries could be directed to its Communications Manager, Idowu Adewale, via [email protected].
