Faruq Dangi Emerges Speaker as Northern Youth Assembly Elects New Leadership
The Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) has inaugurated a new national executive council following its 5th Congress and Election held on Saturday, January 10, 2026. The event, hosted at the Keffi Local Government Secretariat, drew youth delegates from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Faruq Dangi Ahmad was elected as the National Speaker to pilot the affairs of the Assembly. He leads a diverse team of executives, including Itodo Apeh Godswill as Deputy Speaker, Faisal Adamu Maiha as Clerk, and James Mgbreketan Jako as the National Spokesperson.
Commendation for Regional Security and Governance
Addressing the Congress, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Comrade JM Abbah, praised the delegates for their commitment to national cohesion. He used the platform to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing “flexible policies and security-centered leadership” that have directly impacted the Northern region.
Dr. Abbah further applauded Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and his colleagues across the 19 Northern states for their proactive measures in tackling economic hardships and improving the safety of residents. He specifically noted the contributions of the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barrister Shuaibu Labaran Magaji, SAN, and the Emir of Keffi, HRH Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, toward youth empowerment.
Strengthening the Grassroots Structure
To ensure effective coordination across the region, the Congress also elected State Speakers for various chapters. Among those inaugurated were Ingule Mathew Sughter (Benue), Sidi Mini (Nasarawa), and Rabiu Mohammed (Kogi).
The BOT Chairman urged the new leadership to maintain the Assembly’s strictly non-partisan nature. He advised the Faruq Dangi-led executive to build upon the legacy of the outgoing Speaker, Hon. IM Lawal, by focusing on the core ideals of youth advocacy and regional development.
