US Delivers Military Supplies to Support Nigeria’s Counterterrorism Efforts
The United States government has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s fight against terrorism and other security threats.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account. According to AFRICOM, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” the command stated, while tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria, @USinNigeria.
The latest development highlights the sustained security cooperation between both countries as Nigeria continues to confront terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism across several parts of the country.

The support follows Nigeria’s renewed appeal to the United States in November 2025 for deeper military assistance in combating terrorism. The request was made by the presidency under President Bola Tinubu after the United States designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the appeal while addressing the designation, stressing the need for enhanced collaboration to tackle persistent security challenges.
Subsequently, on December 25, 2025, a joint airstrike operation was carried out in collaboration with Nigerian authorities, targeting terrorist positions in parts of the North-West region.
The Federal Government later confirmed that security and intelligence cooperation with the United States remained ongoing following the operation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also disclosed that Nigeria is engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the United States, to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the ministry, the cooperation includes intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support, conducted in line with international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and shared security commitments.
Reacting to the joint operation, United States Congressman Riley Moore described the airstrikes as “a decisive move to protect Christian communities and confront the country’s ongoing security crisis.”
