Gov. Yusuf Briefs Tinubu on Security Crisis; Seeks Federal Support for Mega Infrastructure in Kano
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State held a high-level strategic meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, to formalize a partnership aimed at tackling worsening insecurity and accelerating infrastructure development.
In an official statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the closed-door session was described as a critical briefing on the “pressing challenges and opportunities” currently facing Nigeria’s most populous northern state.
Urgent Intervention on Security
A primary focus of the meeting was the deteriorating security situation in several Kano local government areas. Governor Yusuf specifically briefed the President on the recent tragic murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, an event that has sparked national outrage.
The Governor called for “decisive federal support” to strengthen ongoing security operations. He highlighted the contributions of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting traditional security agencies and urged for a deeper, more integrated collaboration with federal security institutions to protect innocent citizens.
