Gov. Yusuf Briefs Tinubu on Security Crisis; Seeks Federal Support for Mega Infrastructure in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State held a high-level strategic meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, to formalize a partnership aimed at tackling worsening insecurity and accelerating infrastructure development.
In an official statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the closed-door session was described as a critical briefing on the “pressing challenges and opportunities” currently facing Nigeria’s most populous northern state.

Urgent Intervention on Security
A primary focus of the meeting was the deteriorating security situation in several Kano local government areas. Governor Yusuf specifically briefed the President on the recent tragic murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, an event that has sparked national outrage.

The Governor called for “decisive federal support” to strengthen ongoing security operations. He highlighted the contributions of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting traditional security agencies and urged for a deeper, more integrated collaboration with federal security institutions to protect innocent citizens.

Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Beyond security, the Governor presented his administration’s development agenda, which prioritizes mega-infrastructure projects designed to stimulate the regional economy.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, describing it as a “critical step” toward unlocking economic growth and job creation for the youth of Kano. He further sought the President’s cooperation to:
* Fast-track existing federal projects within the state.
* Ensure Kano benefits maximally from national social investment programmes.
* Bridge the infrastructure gap through sustained federal-state synergy.

Presidency Reaffirms Commitment
In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly assured Governor Yusuf of the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with the Kano State Government. The President emphasized that the federal administration is committed to working across party lines to drive sustainable development and restore absolute peace to the state.

The meeting is viewed by political analysts as a significant step in aligning the interests of the Kano State Government with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the federal administration, especially as the nation navigates complex security and economic hurdles in 2026.
