Army Adopts Digital Inspection Tools to Boost Accountability, Operational Efficiency

The Nigerian Army has launched a technology-driven inspection and compliance framework aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and efficiency in project execution across its formations.

The initiative was unveiled on January 20, 2026, with the opening of the Directorate of Inspections and Compliance (DI&C) Project Inspection Workshop 2026 at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Asokoro, Abuja.

The four-day workshop, organised by the Office of the Chief of Army Staff through the Directorate of Inspections and Compliance, is themed “Leveraging Technology: Panacea for Enhanced Inspection and Compliance.” It is designed to modernise the Army’s inspection processes by integrating technology-enabled tools to improve oversight and performance monitoring.

Declaring the workshop open, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, described the initiative as timely and critical to the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army.

He said the increasingly complex and dynamic operational environment has made traditional manual inspection methods inadequate, underscoring the need for integrated, technology-based solutions to ensure effective compliance and project delivery.

Major General Adeyinka emphasised that inspections remain a key command instrument for translating policies, plans, and projects into measurable outcomes. He noted that technology-enabled inspections should be viewed not as fault-finding exercises, but as tools for performance improvement, standardisation, and institutional learning.

In his welcome address, the Director of the Directorate of Inspections and Compliance, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, said the workshop was a strategic response to contemporary operational realities and the need to align inspection and compliance functions with the Chief of Army Staff’s transformation agenda.

He stressed that effective project inspection is essential for enhancing operational readiness, ensuring optimal resource utilisation, promoting fiscal discipline, and reinforcing institutional credibility.

The workshop has drawn participants from various formations and units within and around Abuja, including senior officers, technical experts, and resource persons from engineering, technology, and compliance backgrounds.

The Nigerian Army said the programme is expected to strengthen its internal oversight mechanisms and support the delivery of transparent and efficient project outcomes across the service.
