Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Eliminate Terrorist, Recover Arms in North West Offensive
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Joint Task Force North West, have sustained coordinated offensives against terrorist elements across the region, recording significant operational gains during engagements conducted between January 21 and 22, 2026.
According to a statement from the task force, personnel of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, supported by Department of State Services (DSS) assets, engaged terrorists during a fighting patrol in Gundumi Village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State. One terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, while others fled into nearby forests with gunshot wounds.

The troops recovered six AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles from the scene, further degrading the operational capability of the terrorist group.
In a related operation, troops of 1 Brigade, in collaboration with the Headquarters JTF OPFY Mobile Strike Team, acted on credible intelligence indicating that injured terrorists were being treated in the Bingi Forest. The joint team discovered and destroyed a makeshift medical facility used by the terrorists, dealing a significant blow to their logistics and support network.
The Joint Task Force said the sustained operations underscore the resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace and security across the North West region.
