Troops Eliminate 18 Terrorists in Sting Operations Across North East

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated terrorist attacks and neutralized at least 18 insurgents during separate dawn operations across parts of the North East, military authorities said on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the first operation took place on 28 January 2026 at Bula Dalo, where troops of Sector 1 launched a night-dawn surprise assault on terrorist positions.

According to the military, the operation resulted in the neutralization of more than 12 terrorists, forcing others to flee in disarray. Troops also recovered four AK-47 rifles, one PKT anti-aircraft gun, one Rocket Propelled Gun, and one multiple grenade launcher from the area.

In a related, deliberate follow-up operation at a terrorist camp in Garno, troops of Sector 1 further degraded the group’s operational capability by neutralizing six additional terrorists. The troops also destroyed life-support structures within the camp and recovered a large cache of PKT anti-aircraft ammunition, among other items.

Meanwhile, in another development, troops of Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI at Sabon Gari came under attack in the early hours of 29 January 2026 by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, who were reportedly supported by multiple armed drones.

The military said the attackers briefly breached part of the defensive location before troops swiftly repelled the assault and restored full control with reinforcements from nearby units.

The attack, however, resulted in casualties, with some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force losing their lives in the course of defending the position. An excavator and a lowbed were also damaged during the armed drone strike.

“Exploitation of the area is ongoing as operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action,” the statement said.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to remain vigilant and aggressive in countering terrorist threats across the region.
