Fani-Kayode Blasts ‘Enemies Within,’ Accuses Opposition of Exploiting Security Challenges for 2027 Ambitions

Former Minister of Aviation and Ambassador-designate, , has launched a fierce attack on opposition figures, accusing them of weaponising Nigeria’s security challenges and national misfortunes for political gain ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chief Fani-Kayode who holds the traditional titles of the Sadaukin Shinkafi, the Wakilin Doka Potiskum, the Otunba of Joga Orile, the Aare Ajagunla of Otun Ekiti is also a Legal Practitioner.

In a detailed statement titled “The Enemy Within,” Fani-Kayode condemned critics who, according to him, mocked over a recent minor slip during an official visit to Türkiye. He described the President as a symbol of the Nigerian state and said those celebrating such incidents display “dark, sinister and malevolent minds.”

Reacting to recent abductions in Kajuru, Kaduna State, Fani-Kayode rejected claims that terrorists are targeting only Christians, describing the “Christian genocide” narrative as an oversimplification of a complex national security crisis.

“The criminals and terrorists do not ask whether their victims are Christians or Muslims; they see Nigerians,” he said, insisting that Muslims have also suffered heavily from abductions and attacks.

He praised ongoing military and intelligence operations, commending the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Defence Ministry, Vice President Kashim Shettima and several northern governors as well as federal legislators such as Senator Abdul Aziz Yari and Senator Shehu Umar Buba for what he called “quiet but significant successes” in preventing attacks and rescuing victims.

A major portion of the statement targeted , the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. Fani-Kayode accused Obi of using what he termed “divisive rhetoric” and selective outrage to advance political ambitions.

He alleged that Obi had been vocal about insecurity in the North while remaining silent about violence linked to separatist agitation in the South East. According to him, such positions deepen divisions rather than promote national unity.

Looking ahead to the next election cycle, Fani-Kayode expressed confidence that the ruling party remains dominant nationwide. He declared that the political momentum currently favours President Tinubu, whom he predicted would secure re-election if current trends continue.

“Those who seek power through the exploitation of pain and tragedy must understand that Nigeria’s unity is bigger than any ambition,” he stated, urging politicians to embrace national cohesion rather than sectional narratives.

Fani-Kayode concluded by reaffirming his belief in Nigeria’s resilience, stressing that insurgency, banditry, and political tension would be overcome through cooperation among leaders, security agencies, and citizens.

He warned that internal divisions, not external threats, pose the greatest danger to the country, insisting that “the enemy within” is the politics of hate and destabilisation.
