NAF, Ground Troops Overrun Gwaska Dan Karmi’s Camp, Kill Scores of Bandits
Nigerian Army troops operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, with air support from the Nigerian Air Force, have overwhelmed bandits in the camp of notorious kingpin Gwaska Dan Karmi, neutralising scores of fighters during a fierce operation on January 31, 2026.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 bandits had converged at the camp to plan coordinated attacks on local communities and military supply routes. After days of surveillance, ground troops moved in and engaged the bandits in a sustained firefight.
Military sources said the bandits attempted to flank and encircle advancing troops but were repelled by superior firepower from both ground forces and NAF platforms.

Many of the bandits were neutralised, while others fled into surrounding areas with gunshot wounds.
The camp, described as a major operational hub for Gwaska Dan Karmi’s network, was destroyed and set ablaze before troops tactically withdrew.
The Air Force has since continued interdiction missions to track and eliminate fleeing elements, while ground troops maintain dominance of the area.
The military, however, confirmed that some soldiers paid the supreme price during the encounter, while one combat support vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and destroyed. The Army said the sacrifice of the fallen troops would not be in vain.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains ongoing, with troops sustaining pressure on bandit networks to dismantle their structures, disrupt supply chains, and restore security across the North-West region.
