Tinubu Deploys Army Battalion to Kaiama After Terrorists Kill Villagers in Kwara
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight terrorist attack on Worro community that left several villagers dead.
The President directed that the new military formation should spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, a security initiative aimed at crushing terrorist elements operating in the area and safeguarding vulnerable rural communities.
Condemning the attack in strong terms, Tinubu described the assailants as cowardly and heartless for targeting defenceless civilians in what he called a “doomed campaign of terror.” He expressed outrage over the killing of community members who had reportedly rejected attempts by the terrorists to indoctrinate them with extremist ideology.

According to the President, the victims chose to practise a form of Islam rooted in peace and dialogue rather than violence and extremism, a stance he described as courageous and commendable.
“It is commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” Tinubu said.
He urged close collaboration between federal and state authorities to provide immediate relief and support to affected residents, while stressing that those responsible for the atrocity must be tracked down and brought to justice.
President Tinubu also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Kaiama Local Government, and the government of Kwara State. He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed in the attack.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dated February 4, 2026.
