NAF Trains 20 Ghanaian Officers, Prioritises Troop Welfare to Boost Operational Effectiveness
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reinforced its dual commitment to regional defence cooperation and personnel welfare, as it commenced specialised training for Ghanaian and Nigerian officers while also reaffirming improved welfare as a cornerstone of combat readiness.
In Kaduna, the NAF inaugurated a comprehensive training programme at the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Administrative Management (NAFIAM), bringing together 30 military officers, including a record 20 officers from the Ghana Armed Forces. The initiative underscores Nigeria’s growing influence as a regional hub for professional military education and its resolve to deepen defence collaboration within West Africa.
The six-month Initial Personnel Administrative Management Officers Course (IPAMOC) is tailored for the Ghanaian officers, equipping them with advanced skills in personnel administration, organisational leadership and human resource management. Concurrently, 10 NAF officers are undergoing the three-month Basic Information Young Officers Course (BIYOC), designed to sharpen competencies in strategic communication, digital information warfare, crisis communication and perception management.
The programme aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which emphasises standardised training and mission-focused capability development as critical drivers of operational effectiveness.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Commandant of NAFIAM, Air Commodore Isaiah Taiwo, urged participants to uphold discipline, professionalism and academic excellence throughout the courses. He expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the NAF by the Ghana Armed Forces and assured that the institute would provide participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to excel in their respective duties.

The ceremony also featured expert lectures by communication scholar Prof. Samaila Mande, who delivered presentations on digital information warfare, personal branding and crisis communication, broadening participants’ perspectives on contemporary security and communication challenges.
Meanwhile, in Enugu, the Chief of the Air Staff reaffirmed that personnel welfare remains central to mission success during an interactive durbar with officers, airmen and airwomen at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Enugu.
Addressing personnel of the Headquarters Ground Training Command (HQ GTC) and other collocated units on February 6, 2026, Air Marshal Aneke declared that “welfare is combat power as mission success begins with our people,” stressing that operational gains must be matched with sustained investment in human capital.
Reflecting on his first 100 days in office, the CAS outlined reforms aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, strengthening logistics and maintenance capacity, and sustaining a mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive airpower in support of national security objectives.
He attributed improvements in operational tempo across various theatres to enhanced aircraft serviceability, improved logistics coordination and renewed emphasis on maintenance culture. The Air Chief also disclosed plans for the induction of advanced combat platforms to boost precision strike capability and reinforce Nigeria’s deterrence posture.
Commending the role of HQ GTC and its collocated units in sustaining training and readiness, he noted that their professionalism directly supports frontline operations against insurgency, banditry and other security threats nationwide. He charged personnel to maintain vigilance, sustain pressure on adversaries and continue to dominate the battlespace from the air.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to morale and well-being, Air Marshal Aneke pledged continued investment in accommodation, medical support, allowances and improved working conditions for personnel. He assured that issues raised during the durbar would be addressed through structured and priority-driven interventions.
The twin developments highlight NAF’s strategic approach to strengthening regional partnerships, enhancing professional capacity and consolidating internal cohesion as it intensifies operations in defence of Nigeria’s national security.
