Sit-at-Home Order: Security Forces Eliminate 3 Suspected IPOB/ESN Militants in Anambra
Security operatives in Anambra State have neutralised three suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an early morning patrol along the Nnewi–Oba Road.
The operation, which took place at about 2:00 a.m. on February 9, was part of ongoing efforts to prevent the enforcement of an illegal sit-at-home order in the area.
According to security sources, a joint patrol team comprising security personnel and local vigilantes encountered armed individuals allegedly attempting to block the road near Akaboukwu in Uruagu, Nnewi. On sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire, prompting a gun battle.

During the exchange, three of the suspects were shot and later confirmed dead, while others fled into nearby bushes, reportedly with gunshot injuries.
The bodies of the deceased were recovered at the scene. Security sources disclosed that items, including assorted native charms worn on different parts of their bodies, were found on them. The remains were subsequently evacuated, certified dead by medical personnel, and deposited in a morgue for autopsy and preservation.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining counter-terrorism and crime prevention operations across the state. It assured residents that security forces would continue to act decisively to safeguard lives and property and to prevent the enforcement of unlawful directives.
Authorities urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to provide timely information that could assist ongoing security efforts.
