Troops Launch Surprise Assault on Kachalla Ibrahim Network, Recover Ammunition
Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have launched a surprise foot assault on a terrorist network linked to notorious kingpins Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, overrunning a key camp and recovering a cache of ammunition in a decisive operation conducted under Operation IGBO IDANU I.
The operation, which dealt a strategic blow to the criminal network, saw troops advancing through dense forest and marshy terrain marked by fallen trees and riverine obstacles.
Despite the harsh conditions that severely restricted vehicular movement, the soldiers dismounted and pushed forward on foot to achieve tactical surprise and operational dominance.
Military sources said the assault was personally led by the Commander 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, who coordinated the ground manoeuvre deep into the terrorists’ enclave.
The calculated foot advance enabled the troops to penetrate the camp undetected, forcing the terrorists to flee on sighting the advancing forces.

A thorough exploitation of the objective area led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandoliers of 250 rounds each, as well as one box of high-velocity grenades.
The recovered items are believed to have formed a critical part of the group’s logistics and combat supply chain.
Security officials noted that the seizure of the ammunition has substantially degraded the operational capacity of the network and disrupted its ability to stage attacks within the general area.
Following the successful clearance, the camp was systematically destroyed and set ablaze to prevent any possibility of reoccupation.
Troops have since sustained aggressive patrols and continued offensive operations across surrounding forests to track down fleeing elements and forestall attempts at regrouping.
The latest action underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed push to dismantle terrorist strongholds through intelligence-driven, terrain-adapted operations.
The troops demonstrated resilience and tactical discipline in an environment designed to favour insurgent concealment by leveraging surprise, mobility, and close-quarters tactics.
Military authorities said the operation sends a clear signal that terrorist enclaves, no matter how concealed, will be identified and neutralised.
